Carol has spent the last two decades working on important issues that directly affect our community and state. She has sponsored legislation to help refugees, such as creating a continuing education program, HB 160, and allowing easier access to get driver’s licenses HB 189. Carol has also championed mental health, especially in regards to the legal system by sponsoring a bill that would expand Utah’s insanity defense law HB 167. The work she has done in the criminal justice system does not end there, as she has passed SB 205 and HB 460 for jail reform.
Carol has also passed numerous bills regarding other issues such as the Home Owners Association, SB 118, Anti-Bullying and Hazing laws to protect students at every level of their education process HB 325, and Distracted Driving legislation that she has been working tirelessly to pass to protect Utahans on the road, HB 101. This past 2020 Legislative Session, she was on an ad hoc committee to negotiate Proposition 4 redistricting legislation SB 200, which allowed for an independent redistricting commission to be created.
Along with these issues, Carol believes working on education, an issue she is passionate and knowledgeable about, focusing on the opioid epidemic facing Utah, and advocating for clean air, are keys to our community and state’s success and well being.
